What this solves
Reading Notes reads the full text of one paper and writes a structured note in your language. The model proposes the quotes, but it does not get the last word: every quote is checked against the text of the page it cites, repaired to the real sentence when it is close, and discarded when it is not there. The reference never comes from the model: it is built from Crossref metadata in the style you choose.

How it works inside
One run extracts the PDF text page by page, sends the prioritized sections to a language model once, verifies every proposed quote against the cited page, and assembles the note with a reference built deterministically from Crossref metadata.
Where AI is used, and where it is not
The model writes the note's sections and proposes the quotes, in a single call with a strict output schema. It has no say in what survives: quote verification is deterministic text matching against the page, the reference comes from fixed formatting rules over Crossref metadata, and metadata recovered from a PDF without a DOI is marked unverified instead of trusted.

What this tool does not do
- Page numbers are the PDF's physical sequence, not the journal's printed pagination.
- Scanned PDFs without a text layer are rejected; there is no OCR yet.
- Reference templates are article-shaped: books, chapters and theses are not fully covered yet.
- Quotes are verified against the extracted text, so PDF extraction artifacts can discard a legitimate quote.

Quotes the model cannot fake
Every literal quote is matched against the extracted text of the cited page. A close paraphrase is replaced by the real sentence; a quote that is not in the text is discarded and reported, never published.

Questions and answers
What does quote verification actually check?
Each quote is compared with the extracted text of the page it cites, after normalization. An exact match is marked verified; a near match is replaced by the real sentence and marked repaired; anything else is discarded and counted on the result. Page numbers are the PDF's physical pages, not the journal's printed pagination.
How does the free daily note work?
The first completed note of each calendar day is free on any plan, including the trial. From the second note on, each one costs 3 credits. A run that fails does not use up the day's free note; deleting a note does not give the day's note back.
What if my PDF has no DOI?
The tool tries to recover the DOI from the file and confirm it on Crossref, checking that the record really belongs to your PDF. When that is not possible, the metadata is extracted from the text and clearly marked as unverified, with a warning to check it before citing.
Which files are not supported?
Scanned PDFs without a text layer are rejected instead of producing a bad note, and DataCite DOIs (datasets, some theses) are not resolved yet. Files are limited to 10 MB.
Is my PDF stored or used to train AI models?
The file is processed in memory and not stored. The extracted text is sent to the AI provider's API for the note step; we use paid API tiers, whose published policy states that content sent this way is not used to train models.
